Flor de Oliva Torpedo

The Flor de Oliva is a budget line of cigars produced by the Oliva cigar manufacturer. These are servicable smokes that have an okay flavor. They are great for the price. Good for golf, yard work, or when you;ve been drinking a lot. These are a nice change of pace and good for a cheap cigar.

Initial Impressions:This was a torpedo sized cigar that had about a 50 rg? It also had a very pointy torpedo top, not like the dull ones you usually see. The wrapper was natural in color and fairly light. It was smooth and had no blemishes on it. The cigar was firm to the touch, no soft spots. A very strong pre-light aroma came off of this cigar before lighting.

Smoking:Excellent burn from start to finish, plus the burn remained cool and slow for the enitre smoke. Good draw but not a big nice volume of smoke that I enjoy. The ash was firm and white and stayed for up to an inch and a half before ashing myself. The wrapper behaved well and did not crack or unravel during the smoke.

Taste: This cigar was smooth except for the last third of the smoke, which had some bite and unpleasant harshness to it. On the whole this cigar was very medium in terms of body. For the first half of the smoke I got a real 'woody' tobacco flavor with some sweetness mixed in and a somewhat salty taste as well. The finish was fairly medium in terms of strengh and stayed on the palate for a long time and also had a sort of 'woody' salty taste to it. In the second half of the smoke the taste gained a very deep sweetness to it, but that soon became intermingled with some unpleasant harshness and some bite. The last third of the cigar had the same sweet flavor, which was mixed with some unpleasant flavor as well. A medium aroma came off of this cigar while smoking.

Conclusion: This cigar had great construction. The taste, while good at some points, left something to be desired at others. The last third of the cigar in particular wasn't very pleasant, but everything up to that point was okay. Based on the previous scale I would rate this cigar a 3, or average. Not bad, but not good for an okay smoking experience.
